The Sandbox, a leading gaming metaverse, is celebrating its partnership with Toei Animation, a legendary Japanese animation company that creates among others the Dragon Ball series.

The partnership involves the creation of new experiences based on Toei Animation’s intellectual properties in the metaverse, as well as a giveaway of limited edition NFTs to fans joining the metaverse experience with the animation company. The Sandbox plans to strategically leverage the partnership to collaborate with other IP brands based in Japan.

Celebrating the partnership

Sebastien Borget, COO and co-founder of The Sandbox, expressed his excitement about the partnership, saying

“This partnership is an exciting addition for our open metaverse platform to bring some of the best content from Japanese culture to our creator community.”

Toei Animation is renowned for producing some of the most successful anime series, such as Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, Digimon, and One Piece. Satoshi Shinohara, Managing Director of Toei Animation, also shared his views on the move to the metaverse, saying

“I am confident that the ‘Fleet’ we have assembled will be able to discover new continents and new routes that will guide the entertainment industry for years to come.”

Finding Dragon Balls and One Piece in the Metaverse

The Sandbox plans to create experiences based on Toei Animation’s characters in collaboration with Minto and the pioneer animation company. The metaverse has yet to share additional details about the partnership.

However, seeing Luffy or Goku in the metaverse could be a big win for The Sandbox and attract anime enthusiasts to web3. It’s important to note that the NFTs will not be based on Toei Animation IP. The Sandbox has yet to determine the type of NFT it will give away, but users can apply with their email address by completing tasks on the dedicated website.

Why you should look at it

Anime is celebrated among Millennials and Generation Z, with an estimated 2.88 billion people having watched anime in their lifetime, and over 100 million people watching it daily. One Piece and Dragon Ball Z are some of the most successful anime series in animation history. The partnership between The Sandbox and Toei Animation could potentially bring these beloved characters and stories to the metaverse, attracting anime enthusiasts to web3.

In conclusion, The Sandbox’s partnership with Toei Animation is a significant step towards integrating Japanese animation culture into the metaverse. The creation of new experiences based on Toei Animation’s intellectual properties and the giveaway of limited edition NFTs to fans are exciting prospects for anime enthusiasts and creators alike. With the potential to collaborate with other IP brands based in Japan, the partnership could pave the way for a new wave of entertainment experiences in the metaverse.
