DeFi Kingdoms, a Play-and-Earn MMORPG on the Metis network, has launched Patrols, an entry-level combat game. Patrols is a rogue-lite, progressive-style game where players can choose their adventures to unlock rewards across different levels.
The players, known as Heroes within the game’s ecosystem, will ‘Patrol’ the Colosseum to protect the Submersia citizens from enemies. In return, the players will earn XP, Gold, and claim unique loot drops.
Patrols’ Game Mechanics
In Patrols, players can choose between levels divided into 1-3, 4-6, and 7-9. Each level comes with a separate set of three randomly determined enemies.
As a rogue-lite game, the Heroes can defeat the first set of three enemies and claim their rewards. However, they can also continue playing a riskier game at the same or higher level for more rewards.
Each enemy kill gives a different amount of XP and Gold as well as a chance to receive loots. A loot consists of eight new pieces of equipment, one consumable item for extra power, and other in-game products to enhance the gameplay.
The Patrols Demo version offers a free-to-try feature that allows everyone to experience the gameplay without owning in-game Heroes. If players enjoy the combat system, they can move on to earn rewards by owning their Heroes.
Heroes are divided into the combat-ready Warrior, Archer, Priest, Knight, Seer, and Berserker classes. However, new players can make an initial team combining a Warrior, Archer, Priest, and/or Knight for simpler and better play.
How To Play Patrols On DeFi Kingdoms
New players on DeFi Kingdoms can access Patrols from the official website while remaining connected to a Metis RPC. Players can visit the Registry and speak to the Patrols NPC to get started.
They can select the Patrols Demo version from the menu to combat with three Heroes provided to them for free. Within the combat system, each Hero has a basic attack, one or more skills depending on the Hero’s level, and two abilities to fight the enemies with.
If players like the Demo version and understand how Patrols work, they can go to the Barkeep in the Docks to purchase Heroes. Once a player makes their team, they go back to the Registry and start playing for rewards.
Further, Heroes need to be ‘Pledged’ as Bannermen to serve the Submersia people. To do so, players need to visit the Registry with the Recruiter NPC. They can also visit the Onboarding NPC in the Docks to avail of on-ramps and exchanges if they need JEWEL to buy Heroes or METIS tokens to pay for gas.
The Metis chain ensures faster and cheaper transactions, making the playability more efficient and smooth for new and seasoned players alike. DeFi Kingdoms’ Patrols aims to expand the accessibility of the Web3 gaming space and make it more inclusive for everyone.
With hi-tech yet fun titles like these, decentralized blockchain gaming is transcending to the next level, thanks to the robust, scalable, and flexible infrastructure provided by networks like Metis. These will emerge as key adoption drivers backed by long-term value, contrary to ecosystems that prioritize fleeting gains — laying a more stable foundation for user engagement and retainment in Web3.
