Nearly 20 Crypto Games are in the Pipeline at Fortnite’s Epic

By the end of the year, Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite, anticipates adding a flurry of games powered by cryptocurrencies to its marketplace.

There are presently five cryptocurrency games available on the Epic Games store, and there are plans for close to 20 more, according to CEO Steve Allison, who spoke to Axios recently. But, none of these games will be created or released by Epic Games.

The first was Blankos Block Party, which Web3 game developer Mythical Games introduced. It’s a multiplayer, free-to-play game where players may gather and customize their own digital collective vinyl toys called “Blankos” and choose from a variety of player-made settings and game styles.

By the time of publication, a comment from Epic Games had not been received. According to reports, Blankos Block Party and Core, a metaverse platform, have proven to be “very well-played,” according to Allison, head of the Epic Games Store.

According to him, Epic won’t discover more about the potential of the cryptocurrency gaming market until other games are released on the platform.

The blockchain gaming sector had difficulties last year. Once popular games Axie Infinity and Crypto Blades suffered a decline in the floor prices for their NFTs, while the former’s native token is still 95% below its highs from November 2021—roughly eight months before a significant cyberattack.

Gaming behemoth Ubisoft claimed in January of last year that its attempt to enter the NFT market had failed because “gamers don’t comprehend it.”

Yet, DappRadar reports that in 2023, investments in blockchain games and metaverse ventures have gotten off to a good start.

When it comes to preserving a financial distance from the crypto games that operate in its industry, Epic is still being cautious. Publishers are in charge of things like transactions, customer care, and refunds, however, Allison claims that Epic keeps a close watch on security.

Because certain cryptocurrency endeavors have a reputation for being unreliable, Epic will not put up with any “bad behavior” from gaming projects.
